Product Description

Author: Bruce Henderson

About the Book: In order to put our domestic outlook into perspective, Thinking Globally presents factual information about selected issues as they play out in other countries around the world. So for example, in the section on energy and transportation, students learn how high-speed trains operate in China and France. In the section on food issues, articles offer perspective about the Italian Slow Foods movement and about cultural pressures for McDonalds operating in Israel. On advertising, students consider how the U.S. and New Zealand are the only countries that allow direct-to consumer advertising of pharmaceuticals. The text includes four chapters on argument and logic to introduce students to the basics of critical reasoning. This text works well for stimulating critical inquiry and for encouraging students to consider views beyond what they would ordinarily encounter in our domestic media environment.
